The Soil Quality Index

This tool interprets indicator results and, if desired, integrates the information to give an overall assessment of how management practices affect soil health.

There are three main ways to use the Soil Quality Index tool:

1. You can select reference results from our database by identifying management practices and geographic regions of interest.
2. You can use the tool to assess your own soils, using soil test data from a lab or in-field measures.
3. You can enter hypothetical data to see the relationships indicators, interpretations and management suggestions. (The tool will suggest expected ranges for indicators).

In all cases, the indicator interpretations will link to pages containing management suggestions that pertain to your soils' condition.

To be able to tailor the tool to your site and interests, we need to collect some information.
Based on your input, the tool will suggest the best soil tests to perform for your situation. If you choose to leave the site so that you can perform the tests (or for any other reason), you can elect to save your site-specific information and never have to enter it again unless something changes. This information will also be used to interpret indicator results and make management suggestions. To sign-in now, click here.
