Federal conservation efforts were triggered by the dust storms of the 1920's and 1930's and the persistent efforts of Hugh Hammond Bennett. In 1935, the Soil Conservation Service, predecessor to today's Natural Resources Conservation Service, was established. For more, go to the NRCS History Page.
